First time compassionate use of laboratory engineered autologous Zurich skin in a massively burned child

Managing major pediatric burns remains a challenge for the entire multidisciplinary team. Limited donor sites make complete early wound closure impossible and need temporary cover options ideally autologous cultured skin increases. We report case of 5 year-old child with 95% total body surface area (TBSA) deep flame burn large scale application laboratory grown, dermo-epidermal analogue, termed Zurich Skin, justified permitted as compassionate use. In total, 1626 cm2 Skin were transplanted onto patient, relating to approximately 20% its TBSA. was easy handle apply, showed excellent engraftment rates 80–90% over dermal substitutes well allodermal remnants, after maturation process lead soft solid, close natural coverage.
